Hey Millennials! (esp. The Bey Hive)
Let me first preface this post by saying thebenjamincoy.com is not turning into thebeyonce.com (LOL). However, I do have to stan very quickly, indulge me.
Imagine me, just sitting in my room, relaxing and scrolling through my social media feeds. When all of a sudden, Netflix releases this image:
Now, my initial reaction was “omg, here’s Netflix with another attempt at diversity using a lackluster and poor representation of the HBCU experience.” (Yes, a read.) After further investigation (Beyonce’ brings the inner Olivia Benson out), I realized the correlations between Beychella and the post. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, the QUEEN is back. On April 17th, Beyonce’ will be releasing a full documentary of the creative process leading up to her iconic performance at the 2018 Coachella Music Festival.
In 2018, Beyonce’ gave the world a small glimpse of what it’s like to attend a Historically Black College & University (HBCU). With a large emphasis on the marching band and greek life, Beyonce’ gave mainstream America and the world one of the most influential shows to date. The concert featured full-marching band arrangements of her greatest hits with choreography that alluded to the Fabulous Dancing Dolls of Southern University (Baton Rouge, LA) and J-Settes of Jackson State University (Jackson, MS).
I, for one, am very shocked that she’s back so quickly. I just knew after the release of her joint album with Jay-Z that she’d be waiting for another 3-years before releasing anything else. But, Bey being Bey, flipped the entire script and gave us a whole new documentary.
So, my suggestion to you is to collect your coin and get ready for this new era. We never know how she’s coming!
