Ceremony SZN

Hey Millennials!

We just finished the bulk of what is mostly known as “ceremony season.” January, February, and some of March are the months that hold the bulk of most notable awards shows that either gives away awards or recognizes those who earned the award (tea).

Yes, the awards shows are about recognizing people for their outstanding work. However, for me, it’s about noticing some red carpet trends and seeing who had the most notable outfit. So, let’s see who caught my eye at this year’s award ceremonies.

Billy Porter

Let’s first begin this shoutout with an homage to the great, Billy Porter. Not only known for gracing the screen and stage with his musical genius, but he is also known for serving legendary red carpet looks. My most recent favorite was his red carpet look at the 2019 Golden Globes. The tailored suit matched with embroidered detailing coupled with the extravagant and mesmerizing cape made this 2019 statement one of my favorites! (Honorable mention to his 2019 Academy Awards red carpet appearance, we stan an icon!)

Janelle Monae

Janelle Monae is my favorite kind of icon because she’s a silent, no-nonsense, yet extraordinary performer and celebrity. The 2019 Grammy Awards Show headliner, stepped on the red carpet in avant-garde black and white (on brand) dress with a fascinator to compliment the outfit.

Beyonce’

“A QUEEN is never late, everyone else is simply early.”

Although Beyonce’ didn’t make the red carpet, her clean and pristine all-white gown was more than stunning at the 2019 NAACP Image Awards. She was welcomed into the ceremony with a resounding round of applause dressed in her all-white Balmain Couture gown. The cherry on top was her silver open-toed stiletto heels and her accessories that cost more than my college tuition.

50th NAACP Image Awards – Show – Los Angeles, California, on March 30, 2019.

Sorry that I’ve been M.I.A., we’ll get into that gig a little later. Until then…

From one millennial to another,

Benjamin Coy
