60th GRAMMY NOMINATIONS

Happy Friday!

The academy has voted and the nominations are in! On November 28, 2017, the year’s most notable and awaited awards show released their list of nominations! This year’s nominations include a cumulative list of artists from Jay-Z and Bruno Mars to  Ed Sheehan and Julia Michaels. Jay-Z takes the crown for most Grammy nominations in 2018 with 8 followed by Kendrick Lamar with 7. New ‘it’ girl, SZA, is the most nominated female of the year. Cardi B takes home her first Grammy nomination for her summer anthem, “Bodak Yellow.”

This year’s academy tried to listen to the new demands of the industry and that of the consumers. After being criticized for lack of color, this year’s Grammy awards are being DOMINATED by minorities. Four out of five artist in the Record of the Year category are minorites (go us!). After the entire debacle of Beyonce”s Lemonade versus Adele’s 25, a change on how streaming numbers is inputed into the winning of the awards. With the rapid growth in streaming, it was important the academy take into account the success of albums on Tidal, Spotify, Apple Music, and others of the like. So, that is what they did. This year’s award show is the first time that streaming and revenue will be taken into account for the one who will receive the award.
