Most known for his groundbreaking and iconic character Lafayette in HBO’s True Blood, Nelsan Ellis dies from heart failure on July 8th, 2017 in Los Angeles, California.

Ellis was born in Harvey, Illinois and later moved to Bessemer, Alabama where he and his siblings were raised by their grandmother. After leaving the United States Marines and attending Illinois State University, he was accepted to Julliard which he graduated from in 2004.

Ellis begin his role as Lafayette in 2008 and lasted through the show’s 7 seasons. Though he was popular for that role, he also played in other blockbuster films like The Help and The Butler.
